Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Tan Banana uses a revolutionary sunless tanning solution containing DHA, custom blended for your skin tone and preferences. DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a sugar based derivative that has been approved by the FDA for over 30 years. It reacts with the outer layers of your skin to create a natural looking tan in 8-12 hours. The immediate color you see is a cosmetic bronzer that mimics the color you will see in the coming hours. Do not be alarmed if you see some color rinse off during your first shower, this is only the bronzing agent. Your tan is still intact.

  • Pre and post care are vital for flawless results.

    • Shower, shave and exfoliate before your appointment. It is best to do this at least 12 hours before your tan.

    • Do NOT use Dove products on your skin beforehand as they leave a residue on your skin.

    • Schedule any beauty services prior to your tan.

    • Arrive without any products on your skin (deodorant, lotions, makeup, etc).

    • Arrive in dark, loose fitting clothes and sandals.

  • We pride ourselves in giving gorgeous, natural looking glows. The risk of turning orange is almost non-existent using the Infinity Sun line of products. Our highly trained technicians will help choose a level of color that is appropriate for your skin tone. Your skin is safe with us!

  • You can wear as much or as little as you like (yes, tanning nude is totally ok and many people do). Our salon features a private tanning area where you can feel comfortable undressing as much as you prefer. Note: A small amount of overspray is expected on garments worn during spray application. Bronzing additives usually wash out, but there is always a chance of staining. We also recommend wearing dark, loose fitting clothing after your tan to avoid any transfer of product.

  • A custom spray tan should last anywhere from 5-10 days. Proper skincare before and after will directly affect the length of your tan. Remember to always exfoliate, avoid lotions and perfumes, and remove makeup before. After tanning, moisturize and use gentle soaps or body washes. With the use of our Infinity Sun Extender products, tans can last an additional 3-5 days!

  • We recommend tanning a day or two before a special event or occasion. Many people prefer to schedule their appointment the evening before and wait until the next morning to rinse off. This gives the spray tan time to develop with little risk of accidental smudging or transfer of product while you are sleeping. Also, please keep your entire pre-event beauty plan in mind when making your appointment. Facials, massages, and exfoliating manicures or pedicures are best done before tanning to prevent uneven wear of your tan.

  • Spray tanning has been deemed safe for pregnant women by the March of Dimes, and it’s much safer than harmful UV tanning alternatives. The March of Dimes does recommend that you test a spray tan on a small area of the body first, as your skin can become more sensitive during pregnancy and spray tanning agents could cause a reaction. Though the risks have not been scientifically tested, the sugar and mineral based ingredients in sunless tanning solutions are an indication that there are little to no risks involved. Of course if you have any concerns, please contact your doctor first.

    • The more hydrated your skin is, the better your tan will look and fade. Be sure to moisturize and drink lots of water! Avoid products with mineral oil, petroleum, sulfates and parabens.

    • First shower should be warm water rinse only. Be sure to thoroughly rub off all bronzer using your hands until the water runs completely clear. Pat dry with a towel.

    • With rapid solutions, wait until 12 hours to moisturize.

    • Be sure to rinse off in the recommended time. Overprocessing can dry out your skin and alter the color.

    • Reminder: DHA takes 24 hours to fully develop.
